Baptism

Baptism for babies and children takes place in a service often called a Christening. In this service parents thank God for the birth of their child. They commit them into the hands of God for a lifelong journey of faith as part of the local and worldwide Church. They promise to bring up their child to be a follower of Jesus.

The role of Godparents is to pray for the child and support the family in bringing the child up in the Christian faith. The church promises to welcome the child and to pray for them.

We also welcome adults for baptism. Whatever the age, baptism is the beginning of an adventure as a follower of Jesus Christ. You are never too old to take this step, and being baptized as an adult is a particularly memorable experience.

Get In Touch

If you would like to be baptized or have your child/youngster baptized in any of the churches in the Saddleworth Benefice please complete either the ‘Baptism of an Adult’ or the ‘Baptism of a Child’ form below and we will be in touch with you. In some of the parishes we try to make baptism a part of the morning worship and in others we are happy for the baptism to be at another time.

If more than one person is to be baptized, please complete the form for each person.
