  1. We want to make your wedding personal and memorable for you. Churches are special places and there are some things about a church wedding that you just can’t get anywhere else.

  • A church wedding will add a spiritual dimension to your marriage
The ceremony includes God and looks to him for help and guidance. God’s blessing is the main attraction for many couples, whatever their beliefs.

  • You can make amazing promises in a church
You can only make vows this big in a church. These vows, made in public, will help you to stay together and grow together. God and your church are there for you to help you keep your vows.

  • The Vicar has a very particular role to play in your wedding
They can blend ancient tradition and modern experience to reflect your story. Because of the relationship with the Vicar, your wedding can be made personal, memorable, meaningful and beautiful.

How do you start…

We are delighted that you have decided to marry at a church within the Church of England in Saddleworth. Marriage is more than a ceremony and we are here to support you both individually and together in the build up to your wedding and importantly in the years after.

The first step is to complete the ‘Marriage Application’ form together which you will find lower down the page. It may appear daunting, but start by scanning through the sections to make sure you have all the necessary information to hand. Immediately after you have submitted the form, the information is sent to us and both of you with the completed form attached.

The second step is to contact the Team Office (01457 879977) to confirm receipt of your completed form and to arrange your visit to ‘Vestry Hour’.

The third step is to attend ‘Vestry Hour’, which is held on the first Saturday of each month between 10:00am and 11:00am at St Chad’s Parish Centre, Station Road, Uppermill, Oldham, OL3 6HQ. Please bring ID that proves your nationality (e.g. passport or birth certificate) and a recent utility bill giving the address(es) at which you both live. During ‘Vestry Hour’ you will see a member of the clergy team with your form; all the processes will be explained including the requirement for a qualifying connection.

The wedding date is not confirmed until you have attended ‘Vestry Hour’.

The ‘Marriage Application’ form will take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete.

It is important to complete it fully as it collects together
the important legal information required for your wedding.

Please take time to ensure you have entered all the information requested
and check it carefully before submitting.

Please make use of the Church of England’s “Your Church Wedding” page which is an excellent resource.
Before visiting Vestry Hour, please do read ‘Preparing for marriage’ in the ‘More about marriage’ section. Thank you.
